Informatics Scientists / Software Engineers, located in Beerse, Belgium.

Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development, L.L.C. develops
treatments that improve the health and lifestyles of people worldwide.
Research and development areas encompass novel targets in neurologic
disorders, gastroenterology, oncology, infectious disease, diabetes,
hematology, metabolic disorders, immunologic disorders, and reproductive
medicine.

---- POSITION 1 ------
Description

The Informatics Scientist / Software Engineer will participate in the
design, development, deployment and maintenance of integrated software
solutions in support of pharmaceutical research at J&J PRD. The successful
candidate will liaise with scientists to translate scientific objectives
into informatics solutions that have tangible impact upon the pipeline,
and will be expected to operate effectively in a global, matrix environment
to ensure the delivery of integrated solutions that conform to the highest
quality, performance and usability standards.

Responsibilities

Design and implement integrated software solutions to support all aspects
of drug discovery and early development, including data capturing,
integration, analysis, modeling and visualization. Establish close
partnership with discovery scientists and technical leads to translate
business needs into state-of-the-art informatics solutions that fit into
an existing global discovery data management framework

Participate in all phases of software development, including planning,
design, development, testing, delivery, training and support. Develop and
support specialized chemo/bioinformatics databases and data processing
platforms. Develop novel computational methods and algorithms. Identify
and implement critical technologies to support a strong, integrated
development environment. Lead projects in line with an agile software
development methodology. Aggressively drive opportunities to share data
across systems and departments.

Qualifications

BS/MS in life sciences with additional computational/mathematical
experience or BS/MS in computational/mathematical sciences with additional
life science experience is required, PhD is preferred. Extensive experience
in software engineering and object-oriented design and architecture is
required. Experience in C#/.NET and C++ is strongly desired. Hands-on
experience in all phases of the software development life cycle, including
requirements gathering and analysis, functional and system design
specification, development, testing, training, and implementation, is
required. Working knowledge of SQL and experience with relational
databases is required. Strong communication skills and ability to
understand business needs and manage client satisfaction relative to
deliverables are required. Ability to function effectively in a large,
highly integrated team and collaborate in a geographically and
functionally distributed environment is required. Good understanding of
drug discovery and development is preferred. Experience in the development
of novel chemo/bioinformatics algorithms is preferred. Experience in the
development of large-scale, integrated software systems is preferred.
Knowledge of standard chemo/bioinformatics tools and databases is
preferred.

---- POSITION 2 ------
Description

The Scientist/Senior Scientist, Informatics, will participate in the
design, development, deployment, maintenance and support of integrated
software solutions in support of functional genomics, pharmacogenomics
and translational research. This individual will liaise with scientists,
clinicians, and business leaders to translate scientific objectives across
multiple therapeutic areas into robust informatics solutions that have
tangible impact upon the pipeline. The successful candidate will be
expected to operate effectively in a global matrix environment with
concurrent project management responsibilities for key informatics
deliverables.

Responsibilities


Design, develop, implement and support data capturing, integration,
analysis, and visualization tools to support functional genomics,
pharmacogenomics and translational research. Translate business needs
into state-of-the-art informatics solutions that fit into an existing
global discovery data management framework

Develop and support specialized bioinformatics databases and data
processing platforms. Develop novel computational methods; apply
statistical methods and develop algorithms for mining large data sets.
Supervise on-site and off-site contractors in a matrix organization to
ensure the delivery of integrated components and solutions that conform
to the highest quality and performance standards. Lead projects in line
with an agile software development methodology. Aggressively drive
opportunities to share data across systems and departments.

Qualifications

Ph.D. in a biological sciences with additional computational/mathematical
experience or Ph.D. in computational/mathematical sciences with additional
biological experience is required. Solid foundation and understanding of
biology and drug discovery is required. A minimum of 3 years of experience
with a pharmaceutical or biotech company in a bioinformatics/computational
biology role is required. Working knowledge of standard bioinformatics
tools and methodologies is required. Extensive experience in software
engineering and object-oriented design and architecture is required.
Experience in C#/.NET and C++ is preferred. Working knowledge of SQL and
experience in working with relational databases is required. Ability to
function effectively in a large, highly integrated team and collaborate
in a geographically and functionally distributed environment is required.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to communicate
ideas and results to non-specialists and gain support for the team's
initiatives is required. Experience in biomarker and translational
research is preferred. Hands-on experience in all phases of the software
development life cycle, including requirements gathering and analysis,
functional and system design specification, development, testing, training,
and implementation, is preferred. Experience in the development of novel
bioinformatics algorithms is preferred.
