Scientist - Bioinformatics
Codexis is a leading developer of proprietary biocatalysts that the
company believes have the potential to revolutionize chemistry-based
manufacturing processes across a variety of industries.
The company has used its technology platform to enable biocatalyst-based
commercial-scale drug manufacturing processes and delivered biocatalysts
and drug products to some of the worlds leading pharmaceutical companies.
Codexis has a funded collaboration in the biofuels market, and the
company is pursuing funded collaborations in several other bioindustrial
markets, including carbon management, water treatment and chemicals.
Job Description:
A scientist trained in computational modeling, structural biology, and/or
enzymology to design gene libraries for cellular and metabolic
engineering of biofuel producing organisms. The candidate should have
a strong understanding of directed evolution and pathway engineering;
a proven record designing and analyzing metabolic pathways in silico; and
outstanding knowledge of microbial metabolism.
Requirements:
-- Energetic, highly self-motivated, and able to work efficiently and
productively in a start-up department
-- Demonstrated ability to devise creative solutions to complex biological
problems
-- Able to work independently and flexibly on a variety of projects-
with good multitasking and organizational skills
-- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology. Experience in the
biotech industry is a plus, as is an understanding of LIMS systems
-- Able to discover novel targets for metabolic engineering experiments
based on computational modeling and expert knowledge
-- Work with analytical chemists and LIMS specialists to keep the
metabolic models updated with current experimental data
-- Experienced in building and analyzing metabolic models, especially
genome-scale models as well as microbial genome diversity mining
-- Possessing strong statistical and analytical skills to interpret
transcriptomics and metabolomics data
-- Skilled in the techniques of Flux balance analysis, metabolic control
analysis, and the development of novel metabolic pathways
