Subject: 08.08.06 Postdoc Computational Chemistry University of Maryland
A postdoc position is open in Peter Swaan's group
in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at
the University of Maryland, Baltimore. An ideal
candidate should have a Ph.D. in computational
chemistry/biophysics/biology, highly motivated
and extensive experience with ligand-based and
structure-based design, virtual screening, molecular
dynamics simulations, and homology modeling,
preferably with an emphasis on membrane proteins.
An understanding and working knowledge of commercial
packages such as Tripos, Catalyst and MOE is preferred.
Some programming skills are a plus.

In general, our group focuses on studying the
structural biology of membrane transport proteins.
The lab employs a multi-tiered approach involving
biochemical, molecular biological and computational
techniques to predict structure-activity relationships
of drug molecules and molecular mechanisms of transport.
Previous postdocs have been highly productive in this
environment. The successful candidate will coordinate
several collaborative projects and interact with
investigators in academia and pharmaceutical industry.
The initial project will focus on developing 3D-QSAR
models for specific transport proteins and expand into
studying membrane protein/lipid bilayer interactions
using extensive MD simulations. For a list of recent
publications see:

Interested candidates should send their applications
to pswaan(_)rx.umaryland.edu Please attach (1) a cover
letter stating your experience and interest in the project,
and possible starting date, and (2) itemized CV including
contact information for at least two references. The
review of applications will begin immediately and will
continue until the position is filled. The earliest
starting date is Sept 1, 2008. EO/AA Employer.
