A Ph.D. position is available at the Institute of Chemical Research of 
Catalonia (ICIQ) (http://www.iciq.es ) in Tarragona, Spain, under the 
supervision of Prof. Nuria Lopez

The position will be filled through a four-year fellowship (two years 
fellowship + 2 years contract) from the Spanish Ministry of Science and 
Innovation starting during the first semester of 2009. The fellowship 
covers the tuition fees for the enrollment in the PhD program of the 
Rovira i Virgili University (http://www.urv.cat) and ICIQ pays for

Project description: "Atomistic modelling of complex reactions in 
heterogeneous catalysis: towards greener processes" the project aims to
employ Density Functional Theory to study the selectivity of chemical 
reactions carried out with heterogeneous catalysts and to analyse the 
stability of the materials that serve as catalysts. 
The group collaborates with experimental and theoretical groups worldwide 
and has contracts with industrial partners.

Requirements: The candidates must hold a B. Sc. or Master degree in 
Chemistry, Physics or Chemical Engineering (obtained after Jan. 1st 2006),
have a solid background in Physical Chemistry, and a strong interest in 
Theoretical/Computational Chemistry. Experience in computational/
theoretical chemistry and the use of Unix/Linux-based operating systems
is a plus, good computing skills and good English definitely a must. 
Citizenship from a European Union country would be helpful to facilitate 
paperwork but it is not a requirement. The successful candidate should be 
able to join ICIQ in the first semester of 2010.

Tarragona is a beautiful city of 140,000 inhabitants on the Mediterranean 
coast of Spain, about 100 kilometres south of Barcelona. Tarragona is a 
UNESCO World Heritage Site and is close to modern tourist resorts
