Environmental ChemOinformatics Ph.D. fellowships and 1 postdoctoral position, QSAR/QSPR and computational approaches to life science, and nanomaterials in Europe.

Environmental ChemOinformatic (ECO) Marie Curie Initial Training Network (ITN) http://www.eco-itn.eu is a collaborative action of 7 institutions from 5 EU countries (Germany, The Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Italy). The primary objective of this ITN is to contribute to the education of environmental chemo-informaticians who will receive an advanced training in both environmental sciences and computational in silico methods. The fellows of the network are expected to apply their knowledge for the implementation of REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) in particular with respect to the replacement, refinement and reduction of animal tests by alternative (in silico and in vitro) methods.

ECO provides 11 positions (Early Stage Researchers in EU terminology) leading towards PhD and 1 postdoctoral position (Experienced Researcher in EU terminology, 1 year duration) starting before September 2010. The selection of fellows will be done on March 31st -- April 1st. Place and details of the meeting (travel and participation costs will be covered by the ECO) will be communicated to the selected participants in March. In order to be qualified for this meeting, please, submit your application before March 1st.

The positions are available within two lines of research: Quantitative Structure-Activity (Property) Relationship (QSAR/QSPR) studies, and computational + in vitro screening methods for nanomaterials. A life science/ environmental/ mathematical/ chemistry background and a first or upper second-class honors degree or equivalent is needed. The general FP7 eligibility rules for Marie Curie Initial Training Networks governing eligibility should be consulted to determine whether the applicant could participate in the network. The detailed descriptions and specific skills required for each position are available at the web site http://www.eco-itn.eu/positions . The enumeration of positions will be according to the Marie Curie Initial Training Network scale. The gross salary is about 35k per year, correction factors for individual countries and taxes apply. Moreover, generous mobility, travel and career exploratory allowances are available. The work on research projects, exchange visits, participation to workshops, schools and external conferences will provide the fellows a unique opportunity to become the leading experts in the field.

The eligibility conditions are indicated at the web site. The applicants may not have MSc at the time of application, but they should expect to receive it at least before middle of 2010.

Important dates:

  • March 1 -- application deadline to participate in the recruitment meeting
  • March 31-April -- 1st recruitment meeting (costs are covered by ECO) May 1, 2010: Expected start of the fellowships

Positions will be open until all candidates will be found, the latest start date is Sep 2010 The applications should be submitted on-line through the web http://www.eco-itn.eu .
