Subject: 10.06.22 Host-Guest Modeling and Design of Low Molecular Weight Catalysts, U. C. San Diego
A postdoctoral research position focusing on modeling of host-guest systems
and catalyst design is immediately available in our lab, which is newly
relocated from Maryland to the University of California, San Diego. The
research will involve calculations of host-guest binding affinities with our
Mining Minima (M2) software and probably with other methods as well; e.g.,
explicit solvent free energy perturbation. It is also likely to involve
a new experimental collaboration aimed at designing improved catalysts for
synthetically useful reactions. These projects will require the ability to
improve and extend our existing software, written in in Fortran and Python.
Knowledge of quantum chemistry, especially in relation to modeling of
transition states and metals, would also be helpful. Knowledge of physical
chemistry and excellent skills in spoken and written English are required.

We are located at the Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences,
University of California San Diego, in La Jolla, CA, a center of activity in
molecular biophysics and computer-aided molecular design and drug discovery.
For more information, see http://pharmacy.ucsd.edu/faculty/Gilson.shtml.
To apply, please send a CV and cover letter describing your interests and
goals, and have 2-3 letters of reference sent to: Dr. Michael K. Gilson,
Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of
California San Diego, 9500 Gilman Drive, MC 0736, La Jolla, CA 92093-0736,
preferably via email to mgilson=-=ucsd.edu. UCSD is an EEO/AA Employer.
Women and minority candidates are encouraged to apply.
