We are looking for a computational chemist to work in the Chemistry Department of the Syngenta Crop Protection Research (CPR) unit in Stein, near Basel, Switzerland. The overall objective of the modelling specialist will be to support CPR project teams. He/she should be an expert in computational methods and in the design of novel agrochemicals.
The major tasks are: - Analysis and interpretation of structure-activity data - Application, development and validation of new/existing computational methods - Design of new structures/analogues and delivery of concrete solutions to the project teams - Influencing lead finding and optimization processes by the use of computer assisted design methods The successful applicant will have a PhD or the equivalent relevant experience in computational chemistry. He/she should have a strong theoretical and practical knowledge of some of the following areas: target-based drug design, ligand-based drug design, homology modelling, docking, pharmacophore modelling, virtual screening, library design, data triage, multivariate data analysis, molecular dynamics and quantum chemistry. The candidate should also have experience with a wide variety of commercial computational chemistry software and significant knowledge of Linux. Practice of the Python programming language would be desirable. He/she will also need a good working knowledge of organic chemistry, good communication skills, ability to work well in multidisciplinary teams, and strong motivation and enthusiasm.
