Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position in the laboratory of Prof. Hung Nguyen in the 
Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science in The Henry Samueli School of 
Engineering at the University of California, Irvine. We seek scholars with a strong record of 
productive activity in computational biophysics. Specifically, we are looking for researchers 
with experience in both development and application of statistical mechanics to biological 
systems. Familiarity with enhanced sampling techniques, multi-scale modeling, molecular 
dynamics / Monte Carlo methods, and standard biomolecular modeling packages would be 
an asset.

Good organization, oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work constructively 
in a team setting are essential. Salary will be based on the specific skill set of the candidate and 
previous experience. Candidates should hold a doctoral degree in chemical engineering, 
chemistry, physics, applied mathematics or equivalent with published records in biomolecular 
modeling and simulation. The initial appointment will be for a one-year period, with possibility 
of extension. Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue until the position 
is filled.

The project involves investigating the self-assembly of biological and biomimetic nanoscale 
materials based on amino acids and on nucleic acids. In particular, we are we are developing 
multi-scale modeling methods that are applicable to the examination of dynamics and assembly 
of complex biological macromolecules, e.g., viruses, DNA/RNA nanostructures, etc. For
