Subject: 10.07.20 Postdoctoral position (Theoretical Chemistry) at the University of Goettingen
The Free Floater junior research group 'Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry' at
the University of Goettingen invites applications for a

Postdoctoral position (full-time)

Employment: We offer a two-year postdoctoral position (salary based on E 13 TV-L).
The position can be extended to three years after positive evaluation.

Project: The computational study of molecular adsorption on metal/metal oxide
surfaces affords an atomistic picture of catalysis, which can lead to the
development of new improved materials and reaction mechanisms. The task is,
however, severely hindered by the computational cost of handling such
extended systems and the sampling of conformational space. In order to overcome
both bottlenecks, the proposed project will focus on the development/application
of genetic algorithm approaches in combination with QM/MM methods for the study
of physisorption.

Requirements: Applicants should have completed a PhD in Theoretical/Computational
Chemistry or any closely related field. Experience in the field of genetic algorithms
as well as parallel programming (with C/C++ and/or Java) stand as prerequisites.
Previous work with molecular modeling/quantum chemical codes will strongly favor the application.

Organization: The 'Computational Chemistry and Biochemistry' group is a Free-Floater
Research Group recently established at the Georg-August-University Goettingen in
the scope of the German Excellence Initiative. The University ranks among the
top research Institutions in the country, offering great career opportunities for young researchers.

Application Details: Candidates are requested to send a motivation letter, together with two
references (name and contact address) and a complete curriculum vitae to Jun.-Prof. Ricardo Mata
(rmata[at]gwdg.de). The application deadline is the 15th of August 2010. The University of
Gttingen seeks to increase the participation of women in areas in which they are currently
underrepresented and therefore explicitly encourages applications from female candidates.
International applications are also welcome. Disabled persons with equivalent aptitude will be favored.
