To: jobs at ccl.net Date: Wed Jul 28 18:19:59 2010 Subject: 10.07.28 Postdoc, MD & MC of alpha-synuclein, Univ Alabama at Birmingham The research involves using computational chemistry and computational biophysical methods to study the structures and mechanisms involved in the misfolding and aggregation of alpha-synuclein. This work focuses on the effects that small molecules, metal ions, lipids and associated proteins have on the interactions, structures and mechanisms of alpha-synuclein aggregation and potential mechanisms of toxicity. The research involves a range of computational techniques including: atomistic & coarse-grained molecular dynamics, Monte Carlo simulations, quantum mechanics, molecular mechanics, and docking. Requirements: * A Ph.D. in chemistry, molecular biophysics or physics within the last 5 years. * Experience with computer programming (especially any of the scripting languages) * Ability to clearly communicate in English (both written and verbal) * Demonstrated proficiency in research and an ability to work independently * Ability to do detailed qualitative and quantitative analysis on simulated model systems * Ability to relate computational results to known experimental results Preferences: * Experience with computational biophysics software (NAMD, GROMACS, etc.) * Experience with Monte Carlo simulations * Experience with quantum chemistry software (GAMESS-US, Gaussian, ADF, etc.) Interested applicants should email a current CV, contact information and references to pattersj^-^uab.edu.NOTE THAT E-MAIL ADDRESSES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED!!! All @ signs were changed to ^-^ to fight spam. Before you send e-mail, you need to change ^-^ to @ For example: change joe^-^big123comp.com to joe@big123comp.com Please let your prospective employer know that you learned about the job from the Computational Chemistry List Job Listing at http://www.ccl.net/jobs.
