Subject: 16.07.06 Positions in Bioinformatics and Structural Biology (University of Michigan)

Two Postdoc/Research Associate positions are immediately available at the Yang Zhang Lab, Department of Computational Medicine and Bioinformatics and Department of Biological Chemistry, University of Michigan.

The first position is on Structural Bioinformatics. The candidate will develop new computational methods for structure-based protein function annotation and structure-based modeling of disease-related mutations. Candidates, who have background and interest in protein structure and function prediction, protein docking, and/or structure-based drug screening, are encouraged to apply. We are more interested in new and creative algorithm developments rather than application of existing methods. Skill in computational coding and creativity in scientific method development are critical to the position.

The second position is on Protein Design and Protein Engineering. The candidate will develop computational and biochemical methods to design new protein sequences of novel biological functions (e.g. enzyme activity, ligand binding, and protein-protein interactions). Special attentions will be paid to designing new proteins targeting pathway of various diseases including cancer and obesity. Candidates with experience in protein design and protein engineering, structural biology (X-ray crystallography, NMR), molecular biology, and/or computational biology are encouraged to apply. Skills in computational programming are not required but will be a plus to the project. Excellent interpersonal skill with motivation and ability to lead a biochemistry laboratory independently is essential.

More details on our projects can be found at Only the creative individuals with ambition to develop a highly successful academic career are considered. If interested in the position, please send your CV and a brief description of your research interest and research plan to Dr. Yang Zhang (Email: zhng[*]
