Several postdoctoral positions are available in the research group of Prof. Mu-Hyun Baik in the Center for Catalytic Hydrocarbon Functionalization, Institute for Basic Science (IBS) that operates in the Department of Chemistry, KAIST - Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in Daejeon, Korea (http://baik-laboratory.com/). The successful candidate is expected to investigate the catalytic reaction mechanisms of organic transformations involving C-H, C-C, C-N, C-O and C-Halogen bond cleavages and bond formations. This work will be carried out in a tightly integrated team consisting of both experimental and computational researchers within the IBS-center. In addition to traditional mechanism discovery work that aims to explain experimental observations, the main focus of the work will be on rationally developing new reactions in the computer that will be tested immediately in the wet lab, so that novel chemical reactions can be discovered in an iterative optimization workflow between theory and experiment. Following publications are representative for the work envisioned: Science 2016, 351, 1424 J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2016, 138, 14020 J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2017, 139, 976 Whereas a PhD in computational chemistry with a heavy emphasis on organometallic mechanisms is considered ideal, all other candidates with potentially valuable skills and experiences will be considered.
