Subject: 17.07.19 Application for a post-doc position (Marie Sklodowska-Curie program) at ProtoQSAR (Spain)
ProtoQSAR is a company founded in 2012 and located in the Technological Park of Valencia (Spain) (www.protoqsar.com).
Our activity consists in the application of computational methods to natural or synthetic chemical compounds,
in order to predict and optimize their physico-chemical, biological and/or (eco)toxicological properties.
Main working areas: pharmacy, veterinary, cosmetic, agrochemical, etc.

Our competences include chemoinformatics (QSAR, grouping, Read-across, etc.), management and analysis of chemical data,
computational toxicology, molecular modelling (docking, pharmacophores, virtual screening). We have extensive experience
in both the academic and industrial sides, with more than 80 publications in national and international scientific journals.
We currently participate in different collaborative projects at national and European level, such as LIFE (www.life-combase.com),
Interreg SUDOE (www.sudoenanodesk.europeanprojects.net) and two H2020-MSCA projects (www.protected.eu.com, www.ep-ic.eu).

ProtoQSAR is searching a candidate to undertake research in the framework of the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions Society and
Enterprise program (MSCA-SE). If selected by the European Commission (EC), the applicant will be funded up to 2 years
through this innovative and entrepreneurial post-doc training program.

Job description
The aim of the post-doc position at ProtoQSAR will be to develop computational predictive models in the context of the different
areas of interest for the company (pharmacy, cosmetics, agro-chemistry, functional food, etc.), with the objective to implement
a complete technological platform through the use of advanced in silico techniques, mainly predictive quantitative structure-activity
relationships (QSAR) models.

Information on chemicals for predictive computational development and validation purposes will be compiled from different available
sources, and the post-doc will apply different chemo-informatics approaches to produce the models.
Experimental validation of the robustness and predictive ability of the models will also be performed.
Finally, virtual screening (VS) tools will be applied for searching alternatives to chemicals with secondary effects or
(eco)toxicological concerns.

Key responsibilities of the ESR
- To manage and carry out an independent research project in close collaboration with the ProtoQSAR staff and collaborators.
- To actively participate in research and training activities within the ProtoQSARs group.
- To contribute to preparation of reports.
- To contribute to writing articles for scientific journals.
- To disseminate research results in the scientific community (via international conferences) and in the non-scientific community.

Candidate background
- He/she has to be considered by the EC as an experienced researcher (ER), i.e. at the time of the call deadline,
be in possession of a doctoral degree (in Chemistry, Pharmacology, Toxicology or a related discipline) or have at least
four years of full-time equivalent research experience.
- He/she has to be a national of any country, and must not have resided or carried out his main activity in Spain for more
than 3 years in the 5 years immediately before the reference date.
- Demonstrable knowledge and interest in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery.
- Demonstrable basic background on chemoinformatics, bioinformatics, programming and/or molecular modelling.

Terms of appointment
MSCA-SE offers an attractive salary and working conditions (http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/).
Salary is complemented with mobility and family allowances.
A unique feature of MSCA-SE is that the ER will benefit from a dedicated training program in the various fields of expertise
of the company.
