Subject: 18.08.23 PhD student or post-doc in computational atmospheric chemistry, Helsinki, Finland
The Computational Atmospheric Chemistry group at the University of Helsinki, Finland (https://wiki.helsinki.fi/x/MYZcD) is looking for a DOCTORAL CANDIDATE OR POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCHER for computational studies on reactions of complex atmospherically relevant radicals. The group is led by Academy Research Fellow Theo Kurten, and applies a large variety of computational methods to investigate the reactions, properties and detection of condensable vapors in the atmosphere. The group is part of the molecular research unit of the Department of Chemistry, and is also affiliated with the Institute for Atmospheric and Earth System Research (INAR). We are located at the Kumpula Campus of the University of Helsinki, one of the major clusters of high-level atmospheric science in Europe. We also have excellent connections to both computational and experimental research groups at other top universities in both Europe, and the U.S. The successful doctoral candidate will have a MSc in Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science or related disciplines. The successful postdoctoral researcher will have a PhD in one of aforementioned fields. Experience of modeling chemical reactions is highly appreciated for a doctoral candidate, and required for a postdoctoral researcher. We are especially interested in applicants with experience of multireference quantum chemical methods, as well as reaction dynamic/kinetic modeling tools. The salary will be in accordance with the University salary system for teaching and research personnel. Typical starting salaries range from 2200 to 2700 euros per month for PhD students and from 3100 to 3800 euros per month for postdoctoral researchers, depending on the applicants experience and merits. The length of the contract will be from two to four years for doctoral candidates, depending on starting circumstances. For a postdoctoral researcher, the length of the contract will be two years, with a possible extension to a third year. The starting date is negotiable, though late 2018 or early 2019 is preferred. The position will be filled with a standard 4-month trial period. For further inquiries regarding the position, please contact Academy Research Fellow Theo Kurten (theo.kurten#%#helsinki.fi). DO NOT SEND APPLICATIONS OR FILES BY EMAIL. HOW TO APPLY Applications should include as pdf files:(1) a CV including a list of peer-reviewed publications (if any) and contact details for two references; (2) a brief description (max 1 page) of previous research experience (if any) and; (3) a brief potential research plan (max 1 page), preferably related to atmospherically relevant radical reaction mechanisms, which the candidate might pursue in the research group. Please submit your application solely using the University of Helsinki Recruitment System via the "Apply for the position" link (from the webpage below). Do not send any applications or other files by email. Applicants who are employees of the University of Helsinki are requested to leave their application via the SAP HR portal. The deadline for applications is September 15th, 2018.
