A PhD position is available immediately in the group of theory and simulation of condensed matter for a project on Li-ion batteries at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering (Lincoln, USA). The research requires application of first-principles based atomistic simulations through high-performance computing to understand and design materials for sustainable energy applications. The key focus is placed on the development of fundamental understanding of molecular-scale mechanisms underlying properties of lithium-ion batteries. The position requires most of the following: Strong background in solid-state physics, physical chemistry, quantum mechanics, molecular dynamics Demonstrated record of research productivity Familiarity with high-performance computing Experience in using major quantum-chemical/solid-state physics simulation packages (VASP, Quantum ESPRESSO, Abinit, CASTEP, etc.) Experience in programming/scripting in Linux/Unix environment is a plus Excellent oral and written communication skills The position requires the results from TOEFL (or IELTS) testing.
