Anton systems were designed and built by D. E. Shaw Research to vastly accelerate Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations of biological systems. The third-generation Anton can simulate multiple millions of atoms at speeds of microseconds per day. Since the beginning of the Anton project at PSC in 2010, users nationwide have used the system to obtain long-timescale molecular dynamics simulations, resulting in breakthrough science, including, as an example: studies of ion channel opening, a process key to the control of excitations in the central nervous system and immune cells the complex lipid-protein interactions in SARS-CoV-2, the virus responsible for COVID-19 the mechanisms underlying the CRISPR genome-editing machinery the molecular mechanisms of amyloid self-assembly, implicated in Alzheimers and Parkinsons diseases Time on Anton will be allotted on the basis of research proposals submitted to an independent committee convened by the National Academy of Sciences. Faculty and staff members at U.S. academic or not-for-profit research institutions, including researchers without previous experience on Anton systems, are invited to apply for an Anton allocation. The application deadline is Monday, October 14, 2024. To help with the application process, two webinars will be offered on September 23. See how to register for the webinars and the Request for Proposals, which includes Anton benchmarks, at: https://www.psc.edu/resources/anton-3/
