From owner-chemistry@ccl.net Tue May 24 00:46:00 2022 From: "Jan Labanowski jasienku|*|gmail.com" To: CCL Subject: CCL: I will try to move CCL computers to new static IP addresses this night Message-Id: <-54710-220524004408-2653-PCFf1l9MLlz1wLVHiHpC2Q/a\server.ccl.net> X-Original-From: Jan Labanowski Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="00000000000023383405dfba9b4c" Date: Tue, 24 May 2022 00:43:52 -0400 MIME-Version: 1.0 Sent to CCL by: Jan Labanowski [jasienku%a%gmail.com] --00000000000023383405dfba9b4c Content-Type: text/plain; charset="UTF-8" Dear CCL Members, This message is sent from the existing server on the current IP address, that is 69.14.11.137. The next message from will be sent from the same computer at the new IP address 99.50.89.186. After midnight or so, New York Time, I will stop the current server and start editing a gazillion of files and to change the IP addresses, the NETMASK, GATEWAY, DNSes, firewall rules, Apache config files, and God knows what else (I made myself the prototype files, and notes). Will I get everything right on the 1st try? I doubt it. And sorry, but I do not have the "test environment". But I will do some rudimentary testing to see if at least the Home page of CCL http://www.ccl.net shows up. Then, I will send another message "We are running from new provider" that will test if the mail server works. The new provider, that I am testing, is a business fiber UVerse from AT&T. I already arranged with them to have Reverse Lookup DNS set for the new addresses. Tomorrow I have a technician coming to install yet another "business internet", this time > from Spectrum. I need to try, just in case, when/if AT&T does not work out. There will be many things that I have missed or do not work as expected at the new provider. I will be trying to fix these things. The new address of the mail server will be 99.50.89.186. Please WHITELIST this address, so the CCL is not blocked on your side. I really do not know who had this address before and it could have belonged to some spammer. I am also replacing my own DNSes with the DNSes of godaddy.com registrar where I have my domains registered. The problem with DNS is that even when I change the DNS Records, these changes need to get propagated to providers' DNSes around the globe. It may take a few days to complete. So there will be hiccups. My ccl.net email (chemistry-request * ccl.net) may not work for some hours (or days...). For this reason, if you see something wrong, report it to my GMAIL: jasienku * gmail.com rather than the ccl * ccl.net. Also my private address jkl * wowway.biz will go away in a few days, I assume (personal nightmare for me since I get there all my bills, professional subscriptions, personal email, and so on...). This transition step is necessary to buy time for CCL. Then, I will be experimenting with putting CCL on some virtual server in the cloud. There are problems with this, as you know. I collected all your comments sent to chemistry * ccl.net and to me privately. Thank you! I glanced at all of them, but after this migration, I will read them carefully and try the suggested options and your preferences. Keep your fingers crossed!!! And please do not send me kudos or good lucks, since I have little sleep lately. Asking for your patience...
