Subject: 09.01.19 Shear Force and Protein Function Regulation, Beijing, China
Sino-German Workshop on *Shear as Regulatory Driving Force in the Extracellular Space* January 19 to 24, 2009 Sino-German Center for Research Promotion Beijing, P.R. China organized by R. Schneppenheim (UKE Hamburg) F. Graeter (CAS/MPG PICB, Shanghai) C. Baldauf (CAS/MPG PICB, Shanghai) Mechanical force recently manifests itself as a major physiological stimulus. How forces like shear flow in blood vessels tightly control biological processes such as adhesion or tissue repair remains largely unknown. The workshop will address the subject of shear-induced processes in blood and extracellular space in general from the broad perspective of genetics, medicine, biophysics, and protein biochemistry, including state-of-the-art experimental and theoretical approaches. Topics include but are not limited to: * Mechanical control of receptor function * Shear force sensing * Force propagation in proteins * Von Willebrand factor and blood clotting * Silk fiber formation under flow conditions The organizers encourage scientists and students to join this meeting! If you are interested to present your work (oral or poster presentation) or if you want join the discussions, please visit the registration page or contact the organizers: http://www.picb.ac.cn/shear/ shear2009- -picb.ac.cn Speakers: * Geert Schmid-Schoenbein, University of California, San Diego * Changgeng Ruan, Jiangsu Institute of Hematology, First Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University * Armin J.
