CALL FOR PAPERS International Work-Conference on Bioinformatics and
Biomedical Engineering (IWBBIO) 20-22 April, 2016, Granada (SPAIN)
DEADLINE ABSTRACT SUBMISSION: November 25th, 2016
***************************************************************************

It is our great pleasure to announce the 4th International
Work-Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedical Engineering
(IWBBIO), which will take place in Granada (Spain) in April, 2016.
Details and instructions for the conference can be found at the
conference web site (http://iwbbio.ugr.es/). The conference will be
devoted to current researches in Bioinformatics, Computational
Biology and Bioengineering.

On behalf of the Steering Committee for IWBBIO, I encourage you to
submit your abstracts, especially the symposium which I am organizing:

"Using quantitative systems pharmacology for novel drug
discovery: a 'systems-level' perspective to reduce toxicity
and increase the therapeutic effect of drugs towards 'precision
medicine' "
http://iwbbio.ugr.es/sessions_proposals.php

Brief description of the symposium:
Over the past three decades, the predominant paradigm in drug
discovery was designing selective ligands for a specific target to
avoid unwanted side effects. However, in the last 5 years, the aim
has shifted to take into account the biological network in which they
interact. Quantitative and Systems Pharmacology (QSP) is a new
paradigm that aims to understand how drugs modulate cellular networks
in space and time, in order to predict drug targets and their role in
human pathophysiology.

The goal of this symposium is to go trough the current computational
and experimental QSP approaches such as polypharmacology techniques
combined with systems biology information and consider the use of new
tools and ideas in a wider 'systems-level' context in order
to design new drugs with improved efficacy and fewer unwanted
off-target effects.

The use of network biology produces valuable information such as new
indications for approved drugs, drug-drug interactions, proteins-drug
side effects and pathways-gene associations. However, we are still
far from the aim of QSP, both because of the huge effort needed to
model precisely biological network models and the limited accuracy
that we are able to reach with those. Hence, moving from 'one
molecule for one target to give one therapeutic effect' to the
'big systems-based' picture seems obvious moving forward
although whether our current tools are sufficient for such a step is
still under debate. We will discuss all these issues in this symposium.

A list of contributions with very high quality will be selected to be
extended and submitted in different special issues (Biomedical
Engineering Online (BMC), Journal of Biomedical Engineering and
Biosciences, Genomics and Computational Biology, Current Topics in
Medicinal Chemistry). More information can be found at:
http://iwbbio.ugr.es/2016/issues.php

DEADLINE SUBMISSION OF PAPERS: November 25th, 2016
Submission must be done through our submission platform:
 https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=iwbbio2016

There are two different categories for submissions: Full paper
contributions (published under Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics (LNBI)
series by Springer-Verlag ) and Abstract contributions (published in
the conference proceedings under both ISBN and ISSN references). The
proceedings of both full papers and abstracts will be submitted to
Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI), INSPEC,
DBLP, EI (Elsevier Index) and Scopus for indexation. More information
can be found at: http://iwbbio.ugr.es/2016/submissions.php

IMPORTANT DATES:
