Abstract:
THE WEB AS AN INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCE FOR IMPROVING COURSE QUALITY.
James K. Hardy, Department of Chemistry, The University of Akron, Akron, Ohio 44325.
Over the last two years, a web site has been used in
association with a number of Chemistry courses offered
at the University of Akron. At present, ten of our
courses benefit from this approach at both the undergraduate
and graduate levels. Resources include a range of review material, interactive
practice examinations, animations, a bulletin board, and
distribution of homework assignments.
An overview of the approach, methods used and typical time
requirements will be presented. In addition, results of
recent undergraduate students will show the impact that
using a web based resource have on student interest and
retention will be provided.
