Chemscape provides chemical structure search and retrieval via a standard Web browser, using a plug-in capable of rendering 2D and 3D structures within an HTML page and a search engine linked directly into Netscape Server. The authors will talk about existing Chemscape applications available on the Internet, including ACDWeb (a supplier database of over 200,000 compounds), IDdb (a patent awareness database), and NCI-3D (the National Cancer Institute's database of over 120,000 compounds.) The authors will also talk about how Chemscape is implemented on an Intranet and give their perspective of the web as a database application development environment.
