Discussion on scientific computing is (was?) going on
in sci.physics news group. Subject is "Scientific
Computing" and it had ~40 replies. They look like
fortran vs c++ (or other objected-oriented high-level
languages) war, but some articles may be interesting
to programmers in chemistry field.
