Schrödinger K.K., the Japanese subsidiary of Schrödinger, Inc., is seeking an Applications Scientist to join our Materials Science team.

As an Applications Scientist at Schrödinger K.K., you will work at the intersection of cutting-edge computational science and real-world industrial application. This role offers a unique opportunity to leverage your research background while engaging directly with Japan’s leading research institutions and corporations — creating meaningful scientific and commercial impact. This is an ideal position for someone who is ready to move beyond the bench and apply their expertise where science meets business.

This Tokyo-based position requires Japanese language fluency and will involve travel to visit customers in Japan and to attend international meetings a few times a year.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide scientific and technical support to existing and prospective customers, including software demonstrations, facilitation of interactions between customers and product development teams, and general scientific guidance
  • Troubleshoot scientific workflows, administration, and adaptation of customer modeling environments
  • Advise customers on best practices for computational modeling and materials design
  • Act as a bridge between customers and product development teams, gathering and sharing feedback
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Account Managers and Marketing teams to support business strategies
  • Publish scientific papers and present at academic meetings, conferences, and exhibitions
  • Execute or support contract analysis and research services

What you should have:

  • PhD in materials science, polymer science, computational chemistry, physical chemistry, or a related field
  • Research experience in MD, QM, or ML — we value learning agility and practical application over depth of specialization alone
  • Python programming experience
  • Native-level Japanese proficiency for customer and internal communications, document and slide preparation, reporting, and academic presentations
  • Working English proficiency for emails, reports, and web conferences
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required
