The value of self- and peer-assessments in education is becoming increasingly evident. The incorporation of such assessment methods into large enrollment courses has been slowed by the heavy load on the faculty member in charge of the course. The use of the World-Wide Web streamlines this process by allowing students to input their assessments directly into a database that can be manipulated by the instructor quickly and efficiently to determine appropriate grades for the assessed work. Experience with such methods in a one-semester Survey of Organic Chemistry course will provide helpful pointers to other instructors who wish to incorporate student assessments in large courses.
