Abstract Nr 3---------------------------------------------------------------Title: APPLICATIONS OF CHEMICAL MARKUP LANGUAGE Abstract: APPLICATIONS OF CHEMICAL MARKUP LANGUAGE. Peter Murray-Rust and Henry S. Rzepa Virtual School of Molecular Science, School of Pharmacy, University of Nottingham, UK Chemical Markup Language (CML) is an application of XML (eXtensible Markup Language), a project supported by the World-Wide Web consortium to create a framework for specifying structured documents in subject where HTML itself is inadequate. CML has been implemented in JUMBO (Java Universal Molecular BrOwser) as a set of Java classes which act either as an application or applet for viewing XML files, with special attention to CML. JUMBO is platform-independent and runs under any Java-enabled browser. In its current development, it will read about 10 chemical/* MIME types and create a structured document in memory without information loss. The application of CML/JUMBO to a number of different areas of chemistry and biological chemistry will be demonstrated during the talk, and we expect that a demonstration CD-ROM will also be available.
